GLBT BOOKSTORE & COFFEE HOUSE OPENS IN OMAHA’S MID-TOWN
The Reading Grounds, a new mid-town bookstore and gourmet coffee bar, opened to the public on June 1.
“We’re creating a place where you can go to relax, alone or with friends — a place that embraces diversity and stimulates independent thinking — a place where you’ll always find ‘Brewing Attitudes’,” says Cindy Collins, president of the Reading Grounds.
Located at 40th and Farnam Streets in Omaha, you’ll find Buzz, the bookstore’s dancing coffee mug mascot, offering, the “aaaaah” in a rich steamy coffee or latté that wakes you up or brings you back to life… the “aaaaah” in that book or magazine that awakens an idea or satisfies a yearning for self-discovery or understanding.
“Our selection of new books, magazines and scheduled events are guided by our values of growth and discovery,” Angie Keyes, vice president of the Reading Grounds explains. “We’re carrying quality titles that delve into the issues concerning a diverse community — especially the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.” Nearly 50 percent of the bookstores inventory caters to the GLBT community and will offer material related to: current events, law, religion, psychology, family, education, health and entertainment. In addition, the Reading Grounds will offer gourmet coffee, lattés, smoothies, sandwiches (including the signature Reading Grounds Book Club), salads, desserts and more.
“The Reading Grounds is an environment where people can evolve through new books, magazines, music, authors, artists and speakers,” adds Collins. “Likewise, our Website offers message boards for community groups, book clubs and others to share ideas and stay up on new releases and community events.”
